The war against the machine has been won.
The war against the machine has been won.
The fight is no longer what we can do with them… but how we can live without them. Some still struggle to control their machines, read endless technological blurb to try to understand the circuits, cables, knobs and switches, failing to understand the soul within the box before them.
Then, there are those who have mastered their machines, drawing sounds of rhythm and lushness, of pulse and insidiousness, that echo and reverberate in the brain long after the sounds have been made mute and the power unplugged. Such is the JBR Project.
In total control of his array of musical devices (electric and acoustic), he blends spaced-out rhythms of dub reggae with huge bass drops; throws sixties-movie-soundtrack spanners into the works; Miles Davis muted horns; haunting Morricone melodica; sleek, lizard lounge music. This is not about control; this is about feel, about atmosphere, the dynamics of the creative process using machines, designed for the purpose. The beauty of the JBR project is the process does not get in the way of the outcome.
Brian Faloon, Stiff Little Fingers
One of the most exciting live dance acts in the country.
The JBR project combines lethal electronic production with class musicianship - creating huge pulsating soundscapes with synths and programmed beats whilst overlaying fluid trumpet and vocal lines. The JBR Project’s sound is rich, melodic and kicks like a mule.
James Kirkpatrick, Delta 9
Heavyweight basslines, live melodica and trumpet
The JBR project sound is lush Dub, laced with live osunds, filtered through electronic wizardy and layered with loops! The JBR Project brings something different to the mix with their heavyweight basslines, live melodica and trumpet!
